Wear & Care Guide

At Selene & Amor, we believe that timeless beauty lies in the care you give your cherished pieces. To preserve the elegance and brilliance of your jewellery, we have created this detailed Wear & Care Guide. With the right precautions and care, your piece will remain as enchanting as the day you first received it.

1. GENERAL CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Avoid Exposure to Water: Water can weaken and tarnish the metal or damage any precious stones over time. Always remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, or washing your hands to avoid exposure to water, soap, and moisture.
  • Keep Away from Perfumes & Harsh Chemicals: Exposure to perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, or cleaning products can affect the shine of your jewellery and cause discolouration. Always apply these products before wearing your jewellery, and allow them to absorb fully before putting on your pieces. Additionally, avoid direct contact with chemicals such as bleach or cleaning agents.
  • Be Mindful of Daily Activities: We recommend removing your jewellery before engaging in activities like exercising, gardening, or cleaning. Repeated friction or impact could lead to scratches, dents, or the loosening of stones.

2. STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Store in a Safe Place: When not in use, always store your jewellery in the Selene & Amor vegan suede pouch provided with your piece. The pouch will shield it from scratches, tarnish, and damage from dust or other environmental factors.
  • Keep Away from Other Jewellery: To avoid scratching or tangling, we suggest storing your jewellery separately from other pieces. If possible, store each piece in its own pouch.
  • Avoid Exposure to Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause both gemstones and metal plating to lose their lustre or vibrancy. To preserve the integrity and beauty of your jewellery, store it in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

3. HANDLING & CLEANING

  • Handle with Care: Your jewellery is precious and should be handled with care. When putting on or removing your piece, do so gently to avoid placing unnecessary strain on delicate components such as clasps, stones, and chains.
  • Regular Cleaning: Clean your jewellery regularly to maintain its shine. Use a soft cloth to wipe off dust or oils after each wear. For light tarnish, a specialised jewellery cleaning cloth can be used. For a more thorough clean:
    • Metal: To maintain the beauty of your gold-plated pieces, use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe away dirt and oils. If necessary, use a cleaner specifically formulated for gold-plated jewellery.
    • Gemstones: Gently clean gemstones with a damp cloth and avoid submerging them in water.
    • Pearls: Pearls are delicate and require extra care. Gently wipe them with a soft, damp cloth after each wear to remove any oils or residue. Avoid submerging them in water and store them in a soft pouch to protect their lustre.
  • Avoid Ultrasonic Cleaners: Ultrasonic cleaners can damage delicate gemstones, as well as affect the finish of gold plating. Even with high-quality plating, the vibrations can cause the plating to wear down or loosen stones in intricate settings. We recommend using a soft cloth and following the care instructions provided for each piece to preserve its beauty.

4. AVOIDING COMMON JEWELLERY ISSUES

  • Tarnishing: Tarnishing naturally occurs over time due to exposure to moisture, air, and chemicals. To reduce the likelihood of tarnishing, remove your jewellery before bathing, swimming, or engaging in activities that could cause perspiration. Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, cleaning products, and harsh chemicals.
  • Scratches: Some materials, such as gold plating and sterling silver, can be more susceptible to scratches. Be cautious when wearing jewellery around rough surfaces or during activities that may expose your pieces to abrasive objects.
  • Stone Security: While all of our jewellery is crafted with care, stones or crystals may loosen with time and wear. To prevent loosening, avoid sudden impacts or contact with hard surfaces.
